Migration to Server 2012R2

As you are probably aware, all the Server 2008R2 systems have to be off the network by June. We've had several states contact us about moving the TwinEngines applications to a Server 2012R2 environment. The applications will run in this environment without a problem. We've developed a FAQ for moving to the Server 2012R2 environment here:

We are still working through the 1100 or so STIGS that need to be applied to the web and database servers in that environment and update our Sys Admin and Security Guide. We will send that out when it is available.

PERMS Integrator

NGB/DA has recently started fielding an application called AppLocker which is being used to block any applications that are installed outside of the Program Files folder. Previous versions of PERMS Integrator installed by default to the C:\PERMS Integrator folder. In the latest version (8.2) we've changed the installer to put it back to the Program Files folder. We still use working folders in the C:\PERMS Integrator folder, but the application runs from the Program Files\PERMS Integrator folder now so AppLocker should not interfere with it.

RCAS 7.0.13

A new version of RCAS is making its way through the states right now. We've had issues in some states with running the 11GR2 client in order to access the RCAS database. So far, our recommendation has been to install the 12C Oracle client and that seems to have resolved the issue. Oddly, the error appears to have to do with a Login denied message instead of anything that would point to your version of the Oracle client.

Also, if you are using the AITSDBA account to access the RCAS database, you should change to using the VTE_USER login. This account was set up for us by RCAS for the TwinEngines applications to use. Discharges

The new version of the Discharges application is now available. You can download it from the "BETA Releases" section of our downloads site here:

This version includes the 20140731 version of the NGB22 form. Still waiting on the final approval from NGB to use that form, but hopefully that will come any day now.

This version includes a lot of new functionality and features and will change your workflow of how you process NGB22s. If your state is interested in doing a demo/training for the new system, just contact me and we can set that up.

Case Management

The new release of the TwinEngines Web App Suites includes some new features and enhancements to Case Management. We've improved the email notifications and done further integration with Adobe forms to make it easier to route PDFs through a completion/approval process. With this version you can now set up a case that will pre-populate a PDF with data from the database (e.g. Soldier Name, Rank, or anything else you can pull from the database), then route that form through different users. Each time the form is routed to a new person, an email notification goes out alerting the user of the task and it includes the latest copy of the PDF as an attachment. The user that the case is assigned to also gets an email notification each time a task has been completed along with the latest copy of the form. This provides instant feedback of where the document is in the approval process. You can also use form fields within the PDF to determine different routing/approval processes based off of what is put into the PDF.
